I have a small house, one child and no job outside the home.  How is it I'm soooooo busy?

Well, one reason is a status change to the above statement.  NO - I am not having another baby.  BUT - I am starting a job - well a business really.  You know - that dream that I've had for 20+ years....and that desire that I've had for an artistic outlet....and that need that I have for some focus and discipline.  Yea - THAT is to be a photographer and have my own business.  So I'm quite busy getting that up and running - building a website, creating a business plan, marketing, doing research.  PHEW - its a lot more than just taking pictures.  But I am LOVING IT!!  Check it out and let me know what you think. http://mamabree.zenfolio.com/

This week I'm indulging in my passion and gaining some experience as the photography for our church's Vacation Bible School.  I'm taking the pictures, and then I'm also pulling them together into a huge slide show set to music ....all for Thursday night.  WHY am I blogging right now????

So that's what I'm up to these days.  Looking forward to a long weekend - Paulo and I have already agreed to lots of relaxation and fun!!!

Happy 4th of July everyone!

"I do it myself"

I've learned that Thomas can open the fridge and help himself to breakfast.   He was up early one morning, so I "napped" on and off in his bed while he played (we were trying not to wake daddy).  Next thing I know, Thomas is telling me to get the yogurt for him and he pulls me into the kitchen and this is what I see.

That is the yogurt container he has pulled out but thankfully cannot open.  On the table is the pizza from the night before, wrapped in tinfoil, that he took out, opened up, started eating, but then decided he didn't like, so went back for the yogurt!

Guess we need to keep his doorknob childproofed so he won't be making feasts in the middle of the night.

Fast flavor ready to go

You know that yummy, garlic-y, oil they serve with those warm yummy rolls at Bertucci's?  Why not make some at home to kick up the flavor in your mundane meals?
  • Go to Home Goods/Xmas tree shops/TJ Maxx, or whatever you have, buy an oil bottle for about $1, maybe $2 if you're splurging on a pretty painted design.  Bring it home and wash it out.
  • While the bottle is drying, grate (with a hand held or box grater) about 4 fresh cloves of garlic into a small sauce pan.  Now pour about 1 cup good olive oil into the pan and turn heat on low.
  • Let the oil come to a very soft, gentle bubble and watch it.  Let it bubble for a few minutes.  Turn off heat.
  • Add a little sea salt and maybe just a dash of crushed red pepper flakes.  Let oil cool.
  • Once the oil has cooled, pour it into the new oil bottle (might need to use a funnel, depending on how wide the bottle top is).  Store next to your stove so you can grab it when you need it.
  • Use it for your marinades, add it to your salad dressing, saute your veggies in it.  Pour some on a plate and dip fresh bread in it.  Mmmmmmmm........Enjoy.
