Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

I told promised that this year, I wouldn't put so much pressure on myself.
Or my family.
That I'd enjoy Christmas without expectation of perfection.
That I'd focus on what the holiday was really about - God's gift of love...
for each and every one of us.
And so Christmas came
and it was.....
beautiful.
special.
wonderful.
perfect.
Because it was all I ever wanted.
And now we are savoring this week of calm

and peace

and quiet
 and togetherness

Tomorrow night we will stay home
 and cuddle
while we watch movies

and eat our favorite food - apps!
I hope you had a wonderful Christmas day....and season
and I wish you a very happy
and healthy new year.

How to avoid the post-vacation let down

Three weeks of vacation.

14 days at Disney.

8 days in a pool.

All days full of sunshine.

All days together...mama, daddy, boy.

Post vacation re-entry is hard after any vacation - how could we ever come home after that?

I'll tell you how....

Come home to Christmas!

Aaahhh, such good planning.  I had the house all decorated before we left so that re-entry would be warm and welcoming...not sad and depressing.  I mean face it - how could cold, grey New England ever compete with sunshine, warm weather, shorts, Mickey, and fireworks every night?

Christmas Baby!  Its what all the movies and songs epitomize.  Cold and snow, sassy sweaters and boots...hot cocoa for goodness sake.  Frosty the snow man?  Can't build him in Florida.

And....bonus...its our very first Christmas in our new house!  I promise - this is the last time that I will call it the new house, considering its been 11 months now.  But it just isn't our home until we finally celebrate our favorite holiday here.  And I am not at all exaggerating when I tell you that we've been planning it since the day we laid eyes on this house.

There's this big huge window, you see...just perfect for the tree.
And of course the fireplace, which we'll use all season long

And with space to properly entertain, this year we are going to bring back my family's tradition of a big Christmas eve party.  My grandparents began this over 55 years ago, and then my parents carried on for many years until they sold their big house.  For nearly 10 years, there's been no Christmas eve party.  So now Paulo and I are going to take a shot at it, put our spin on it...and hopefully make the tradition our own.

For now...

I'm just enjoying the sounds of the season

(this album is THE christmas album for me)

The sights of the season
The glow of the season
The tradition of the season
The pure unadulterated JOY of the season

Merry Christmas season to you all!

We are sooo not in Kansas

We are somewhere in the south, en route home, and oh.my.soul...I could live here.

- Chic Fil A: 'nough said

- Christian radio station playing in Chic Fil A

- make that: there's actually Christian radio here

- Get this: the young people at Chic Fil A actually looked me in the eye while I ordered; called me "mam"; and...AND they said "my pleasure" when they handed me my order!! Really!??!

- There were a group of women having a bible study meeting right there at their table...in the middle of the restaurant... and no one gave them the hairy eyeball!

We are soooo not in New England right now.

A different kind of Thanksgiving

Last year I blogged about how we started our own Thanksgiving traditions.  This year we're doing something new again, although I'm pretty sure it won't become tradition.

This year we are in Florida, at Disney, for Thanksgiving week.  This is actually our second week here.  We're staying at a time share condo and have room a plenty for guests so Nana, Big T, Auntie Janet and Uncle Ed all came (they live in Florida this time of year). Here in the condo we have a full kitchen so we actually cooked a big traditional Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings.  And as the turkey cooked, we did something a little out of the ordinary for us - to work up our appetite.

Check it out....

Thomas even went under water.  1st time ever!! And all by himself..we weren't even in the pool with him.
After dinner we played a few rounds of Left, Right, Center - one of Thomas' favorite games.

Today is our last day in Orlando.  Full day for us - a little packing, a little pool, a little Disney park.  Tomorrow we leave - but not Florida.  Oh no people - we still have 3 more days here in the sunshine state.  Tomorrow we are heading to Nana and Big T's winter home!!
